Responsible & Sustainable
"jewellery made with such skill and care is, by its nature, built to last." - Jessica Diamond, Sunday Times Style
As the owner of a small business Hannah can make responsible, sustainable choices which have a positive impact. Her jewellery is all handcrafted in her London studio and her work is designed to be kept, cherished and passed on through generations.
Hannah has created a Fair Luxury Provenance Pledge and offers 100% Recycled, fair-trade, Fairmined and remodel options. By delving deeper into the supply chain she aims to responsibly source the precious materials she uses and to provide options that create a positive social impact by supporting artisanal miners and their communities.
Through Ecologi Hannah offsets her carbon emissions and plants a tree for every item purchased online. She also makes regular donations to the Marine Conservation Society. Hannah’s studio is based at Cockpit, by being part of a social enterprise and creative community she helps support opportunities for emerging artisans.
Hannah recognises that making sustainably and responsibly is a journey, with constant learning and adapting along the way. She values transparency and continues to evaluate her progress and actively take new positive steps each year.
‘True luxury’ is feeling good about your choices. Hannah hopes that the following options will help to empower you, in your decisions, about the materials for your jewellery. Please contact Hannah if you would like to discuss these further.

100% Recycled Silver & Gold
Opting for 100% Recycled is an accessible first step towards responsibly sourced materials. The emphasis is on sustainability and limiting environmental damage. The metals Hannah uses are from a UK supplier who offers next level transparency. This metal is fully traceable as the supplier ensures that they are not buying from conflict areas and that the material is not newly mined.
Benefits of using 100% Recycled metals
- You are limiting environmental damage as no new mining is required. Large scale mining can harm the environment – stripping forests and creating pollution.
- The source is fully traceable so you can be assured that no conflict materials are used.
- Production is ethically and environmentally sound. It doesn’t involve the use of unethical mining practices, unsafe working conditions or child labour.

Fair-trade Gold / Fairmined Silver & Gold
Hannah offers a source of precious materials which makes positive ethical changes. Opting for fair-trade or Fairmined is an amazing way to create real social impact and can also help to reduce environmental damage.
Hannah has been a fair-trade licence holder for a number of years and is now also Fairmined registered. This means you can now choose Fairmined Silver, and from both fair-trade and Fairmined Gold. Choosing to work with fair-trade and Fairmined materials is ethically responsible as they positively make a difference to lives of miners, their families and community.
Benefits of using fair-trade & fairmined materials
- You can generate positive social impact with a purchase - you are helping to support and empower small-scale artisanal miners and their communities.
- You are helping to ensure fair pay, gender equality, no child labour, safe working conditions and clean water supplies.
- You are helping to invest in responsible mining operations and social development.
- You are supporting endeavours to improve environmental protection and helping to limit damage.

Repurposing Precious Metals and Jewels
You continue to have the option to commission a re-model of your own precious materials. Repurposing materials is currently a very popular choice and may also add further sentimental meaning to your jewellery. The provenance of your own precious materials may not be known, however environmental damage is minimised by repurposing.

Ethically Sourced Jewels
Jewels / Stones are notoriously challenging to source with a fully transparent supply chain but more options are becoming available for stones which can be traced to their origins and which are mined under fair trade principles.
Hannah believes that the jewellery trade has a collective responsibility to push for more of this from suppliers. Hannah now works with suppliers who can offer responsibly sourced, traceable and ethical jewels and has retrieved as much information as possible about any pre-existing jewels in her collection. Some of the jewel options available are listed below.
-
KIMBERLEY PROCESS
Conflict free diamonds are from a supplier adhering to the Kimberley Process, however Hannah feels that this should be the minimum requirement.
-
CANADAMARK
Where possible, for all new work, Hannah looks to source Canadamark Diamonds which ensure full traceability and are mined under strict Canadian regulations.
-
COLOURED GEMS
Hannah works with gemstone dealers who deal directly with miners, mines and cutters. They offer responsibly-sourced, fully traceable, ethical gemstones from Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Australia and other carefully selected sources.
