Jewellery Care

Hannah's pieces are designed to be loved for a lifetime and passed down through generations. Caring and maintaining jewellery correctly - adds to its lustre and longevity.

Cleaning & Care Service
Hannah offers a Cleaning & Care service to restore and revitalise the pieces she has made. It is advisable to have stone-set pieces checked every two years to maintain them for longevity. Hannah is happy to give your piece a thorough check and clean, and there is no charge for this.
Over time should your jewellery require repair or resizing and if the surface needs to be restored or refinished Hannah can also assist you. If your jewellery needs more regular cleaning, above and beyond the regular two year check, this can also be accommodated.
Please contact Hannah to discuss your individual requirements and allow up to 14 days for the return of your jewellery.

How to Care for your Jewellery
Store unworn jewellery flat in a jewellery box or pouch to prevent scratches.
Remove your jewellery before engaging in practical activities, to ensure it doesn’t get accidentally damaged.
Try not to expose jewellery to household chemicals, perfume and hairspray, as these can cause precious stones and metals to tarnish and discolour. We would always advise putting on perfume and hairspray before any jewellery is worn.
Regular exposure to saltwater or chlorine can cause damage or tarnishing to metals and stones, so we would advise removing jewellery if you are a regular swimmer.
Regular impact with a harder metal, such as steel will damage jewellery. Avoid doing activities such as gym, cycling, gardening with jewellery, as this can damage pieces overtime.
Avoid storing your jewellery in damp or humid conditions as this causes tarnishing.

Cleaning your jewellery at home
Where possible Hannah always advises that you opt for a professional cleaning service. If you wish to clean your jewellery at home, these are some suggested guidelines which you may find useful.
Over time silver jewellery can tarnish. Carefully use a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water to remove any dirt and clean around the granules. Ensure you dry the piece thoroughly.
Gold jewellery and diamonds and other gemstones may also be cleaned in warm soapy water, brushing gently with a soft toothbrush to remove dirt. Ensure you dry the piece well afterwards.
Take extra care when cleaning jewellery set with stones and pearls.

There are ways to maintain and restore some jewellery finishes at home and Hannah can also provide this as part of her Cleaning & Care service.
-
MATT FINISH
With wear matt surfaces can start to polish up when worn, this is especially true of rings. To restore a matt finish very gently rub the piece with a green scouring pad, in a soft circular motion in with warm soapy water. If you are unsure you can test this on the inside or back of the piece first. Ensure you dry the piece well afterwards.
-
OXIDISED FINISH
Oxidisation is a surface treatment given to the silver. Over time with wear, this can start to rub back, exposing the silver underneath. This is particularly true of rings, as they receive more everyday wear. This worn effect can be very desirable as silver highlights are added to the piece. However, if you would like the oxidised finish to be restored Hannah can provide this service.
-
POLISHED FINISH
You can use a silver or gold cloth or polish to carefully restore the shine to a polished piece.
